ZeroLandfill Akron

AKRON Pilot Project - February 2009

The preliminary numbers are in and it looks like the pilot project for ZeroLandfill Akron was an overwhelming success. Over three consecutive Feb Saturdays, nearly 6,400 pounds of expired specification samples donated by local architects and interior designers were distributed to area arts educators, students, and artists. That's a lot of stuff!

Watch for a program survey that will be sent to all participants requesting feedback from their experience at Zerolandfill this month. The results will be posted here when they are tabulated. Also, the Beacon Journal is publishing a story on the Akron effort this week.

Special thanks go out to our project sponsors - Mocha Maiden Coffee House, Harris Day Architecture, and CityArt on High. Also, this project would not have been a success without all of our dedicated volunteers who were the engine of this program ~ major kudos go out to volunteers Lisa Bostwick and the Kent State Interior Design Students (you know who you are !). And to the firms that donated expired samples, thank you for rerouting the gold that is present in our waste stream. The Akron community thanks you and honors your stance as change agents in your industry.

Hope to see you soon at a ZeroLandfill project near you.

Best Regards,

The 2009 ZeroLandfill Organizing Team
